Explaining The Core Concept Of Metrology

In our day to day life, taking a measurement of almost everything has become quite an inevitable task. In machinery terminology, metrology is the study of measurement covering both the theoretical and experimental aspects of measurement and then it determines whether these aspects have any uncertainty or incongruity.

As a matter of fact, metrology is the most fundamental need in any field of science and technology and this sort of requirement is very important in the field of engineering and manufacturing. It should be noted that metrology means studying the measurement which means it enforces, validates and confirms predefined quality/standards for traceability, accuracy, reliability, and precision.

In absence of perquisite study of these factors, it would be impossible to validate the measurement resulting in technical snags or inconsistency of harmful natures. A variety of metrology measuring instruments, including cnc vision measuring system and Starrett video measurement are used to validate and verify predefined standards of machinery equipment in terms of its accuracy, reliability and precision.

The need for metrology becomes very important due to the fact that verifying predefined standards are necessity that is mandated by the government and the agencies to ensure accuracy and precision standard of measurement of machinery equipment. The kind of study of measurement is conducted in calibration laboratories.

In terms of experimental aspect, the metrology measuring instruments deals with the relationship among variables while in theoretical aspect, it involves different concepts and principles underlying the study. The three subfields metrology is divided into are – fundamental metrology, industrial metrology, and legal metrology.
